RMS talk, 1 May 2008, Manchester

RMS gave a fantastic talk at Manchester Free Software this evening. It was well-attended. The last time I went to his live talk was 3 years ago at Bologna. He was in a very good mood today (I sensed), with a much improved sense of humour. Lasting for 2 hours, he covered not just the 4 freedoms, but also his biographical trajectory, new threat to the free software movement (not aware of freedom being taken away and those terms (e.g., Linux, open source software) that could easily fox people), and free software and business and education. I was happy to see the RMS preaching show - really fun. And the auction in the end was great, too - well done, John. The interaction with the 'Brits' was great, although I found some audience who asked him questions in the end inappropriate. They should have done some more homework before coming. Although it is often said that no questions are stupid or bad, I do think that some of the audience did not quite get the points that RMS was making and the socio-legal problems with software, (or maybe not used to the special style RMS expresses his thought).

Anyway, thanks for travelling for Manchester to deliver this talk, RMS!
